Cute, but material choices detracts from the charm

I've been very interested in this kit for a while, and was happy to finally be able to pick it up. The jointing of the tail, both in "casual" and in "full miko" mode is especially good, allowing for a lot of poses and angles. Beyond this, the kit has Kotobukiya's typical build and tolerance quality.

However, on the other side of this is that the kit heavily uses shiny ABS plastic for everything other than the actual skin. This results in a very weird look and vibe when finished. It feels too artificial. While this generally isn't a problem with Kotobukiya kits, that's also because their girlpla kits are generally either meant to be representing plastic model kits, or are people in armour. In these cases, some degree of shine is expected. But for what should be fabric on the Yukumo, it's weird.

I used a matte varnish to paint over these parts, and I think it dramatically improved the look and feel, especially on the tail and hair. It gave Yukumo a much "softer" look, which fits the outfit very well.

As an aside, the size difference between the box and the resulting kit is also very dramatic. One of the largest differences I've seen in any model kit I've built.
